Abstract
The Frances I. Ashcraft collection consists of an audiocassette and transcription for an oral history interview conducted between Ashcraft and Daardi Sizemore in 2002. Ashcraft Enlisted into the Army Medical Department to do physical therapy. She served during World War II, and was located primarily in the United States, France and Germany. She came out of the service as a 1st Lieutenant.
This oral history interview was conducted as part of the South Central Minnesota Veterans History Project conducted by the Southern Minnesota Historical Center at Minnesota State University, Mankato.

Biographical / Historical
Frances I. Ashcraft was born in St. Paul, Minnesota in1920. While living in Inver Grove, Minnesota at the age of 23 she enlisted into the Army Medical Department during World War II. She served in several places in the United States until being sent to France and Germany. After 3 years of service Ashcraft was discharged from Fort Sheridan in Illinois. She returned to Inver Grove for a short while and then went to work at Kennedy General, a Veteran’s Hospital in Tennessee. After a few months there, she went to Rockford Illinois and worked with polio patients. In 1948 she moved to Albert Lea, Minnesota where she still lives today. Ashcraft married and started a Physical Therapy practice. She retired from that in 1952. She is a member of the American Legion Post, Auxiliary and the VFW.
