Scope and Contents

This collection consists of items pertaining to the Riverbend Association and their opposition to a proposed reservoir on the Blue Earth River. Newspaper clippings and photocopies of newspaper articles make up part of the collection. These articles and letters to the editor focus on the Riverbend Association, and the Blue Earth River Reservoir project. Informational pamphlets and papers released by the State of Minnesota and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers are also included in the collection. These items are all regarding the impact of the proposed reservoir on the area surrounding the Blue Earth River. Other miscellaneous items, such as the group’s policy statement, a map of the proposed reservoir, and questions that were asked to the Corps of Engineers at a community forum are also included in the collection.

Biographical / Historical

The Riverbend Association was organized in November 1968 to consider problems with the rivers in Minnesota Region 9. The group was a citizens planning group, which examined the U.S. Army Engineer Corps proposals to build a reservoir on the Blue Earth River to prevent flooding. The Project Alternative Task Force, an offshoot of the Riverbend Association, was formed to make the community aware of the reservoir plan and the problems that it would cause.

Abstract

This collection consists of items from the Riverbend Association, a citizens group that was concerned with plans to build a reservoir on the Blue Earth River to control flooding. Included in the collection are the group’s policy statement, information released by the Corps of Engineers about the proposed reservoir, photocopies of newspaper articles about the Riverbend Association or the reservoir proposal, and a map of the proposed Blue Earth River Reservoir.
