Abstract
This collection is the transcript of an oral history interview conducted with Sue Saiki in 1975. In this interview, Mrs. Saiki discusses her family’s origins, and her experiences in Mankato as a Japanese American during World War II. She speaks about the environment of hostility present during World War II, raising her children in her family’s culture, and life in Mankato after the war.

Biographical / Historical
Mrs. Sue Saiki was born in Santa Fe Springs, California, September 19, 1919. Her parents were Junichi (James) Okamoto and Mene Kochi, who were both born in Japan. Sue was the third of six children raised in California. She married Ty (Taro) Saiki in October 1941. They moved to Mankato, Minnesota a few months afterward.
