 Collection — Folder: 1
Identifier: SMHC Collection 1457

Abstract

The Winnifred Alberg collection consists of an audiocassette and transcript of an oral history interview conducted between Alberg and Mary Kunelius during the fall of 1987. Alberg entered the teaching profession during the 1940s but after marrying and giving birth she left public education to raise her children. In 1971, she reentered the profession as an elementary music teacher in Randolph, Minnesota, and in 1980, she left Randolph to join the faculty at Montgomery, Minnesota. Throughout the interview, Alberg discussed the areas of change and continuity for music education teachers. She noted changes in the styles of methodologies of teaching children music along with state regulations, budget cuts, a Minneapolis, Minnesota teachers' strike, and changes that occurred in society during the 1960s.

This oral history interview was conducted as a requirement for the graduate level Educational Foundations course entitled History of Education in American Culture at Mankato State University in Mankato, Minnesota.
