Abstract

The Harold Martin Bergt collection consists of an audiocassette and transcript of an oral history interview conducted between Bergt and John Britton during the fall of 1987. Bergt worked as a teacher/principal in a variety of Missouri Synod Lutheran Schools during his career: St. Johns Lutheran School, Chester, Nebraska (1941-1942), St. Paul's Lutheran School, Ute, Iowa (1942-1944), St. Paul's Lutheran School, Coffeyville, Kansas (1944-1946), Zion Lutheran School, Hastings, Nebraska (1946-1959), and Trinity Lutheran School, Freemont, Nebraska (1959-1982). In the interview, Bergt discussed the areas of change and continuity within parochial education during his career.

This oral history interview was conducted as a requirement for the graduate level Educational Foundations course entitled History of Education in American Culture at Mankato State University in Mankato, Minnesota.
