Scope and Contents
This collection consists of items pertaining to the Mankato, Minnesota YMCA between 1875 and 1977. The collection's materials are separated into five series with a topographical and chronological order: Correspondence, Administrative Documents, Miscellaneous, Photographs and Scrapbooks, and Membership.
Correspondence, 1959-1974
Correspondence and personal records also make up part of the collection. The correspondence of the YMCA organization from 1969 until 1974 are included, as are the personal meeting calendars of Jim Buckley, executive director of the YMCA from 1958 until 1978. Scrapbooks and photographs of YMCA events from 1909 - 1910 and 1961 - 1964 also are available in this collection.
Administrative Documents, 1904-1977
The Board of Directors meeting minutes make up a large portion of the collection. These records cover the years from 1924 until 1974. Reports made to the National Council of the YMCA and YMCA annual reports are a part of the collection. These records run from 1950 to 1976, but are not complete. Other items, such as correspondence, programs, and nev^spaper clippings about YMCA events are also included in these files.
Miscellaneous, 1875-1974
This series contains newspaper clippings, Jim Buckley's calendars, reports, program information, and various other printed materials.
Photographs and Scrapbooks, 1906-1964
The photographs are from 1906-1912. The scrapbooks are from 1909-1910 and 1961-1964.
Membership, 1940-1971
Membership information and financial records also are included. These records cover the membership drives conducted by the YMCA, building fimds, annual financial reports, and United Fund Budget information. Some miscellaneous papers, including correspondence and printed materials are also included in these files, which cover from approximately 1940 until 1971.

Biographical / Historical
The Young Men's Christian Association of Mankato (YMCA) met to adopt a constitution and name a board of directors on December 29, 1874. The organization named E. M. Pope as president and held devotional meetings and bible classes in two rooms rented over a dry goods store at 117 South Front Street in Mankato
.
In the 1880s the organization lapsed, but began functioning again in 1891 with a Mr. Montgomery at the hehn. In 1904, the Mankato YMCA built a new headquarters at the comer of Cherry and Second Streets. From this building, the YMCA sponsored community entertainment, speakers and musical events, and athletic activities such as track, basketball, and baseball.
The Mankato YMCA moved to 111 Park Lane in 1958, and it has expanded its facilities several times to meet the needs of the people of Mankato. The YMCA is still located in the building they moved to in 1958, but the address is now 1401 South Riverfront Drive, and they continue to grow to meet the needs of their many members.

This collection consists of items pertaining to the Mankato, Minnesota Young Men's Christian Association (YMCA). Items related to daily operations, meeting minutes, membership lists, financial records, and the relationship between the YMCA and the Mankato community are all part of the collection. Newspaper clippings, photographs, event programs, correspondence from the various departments of the YMCA, and historical information about the founding of the Mankato YMCA are also available in this collection.
