Miscellaneous Legislative Items, 1961 - 1974

File — Half Hollinger box: 02, Folder: 04

Scope and Contents

From the Collection:

This collection is comprised of the papers of Roy F. Schulz, a member of the Minnesota House of Representatives from 1951 until 1971, from Blue Earth County. Included in these papers are correspondence, legislative bills, his local newspaper column, photographs, newspaper clippings, and files kept by Schulz on various issues during his term in the legislature.

The correspondence is made up of letters to and from Schulz, and covers topics like seat belt usage, renaming Mankato State College, and state funding issues. These letters are arranged chronologically.

Printed copies of House and Senate bills, which were introduced in 1963, make up three folders of the collection. These are also arranged chronologically.

Published and unpublished materials by or about Schulz also make up a considerable portion of the collection. Included in this category are four original photographs of Schulz taken during his legislative career, photocopies of newspaper clippings by and about Schulz, an incomplete collection of manuscripts from Schulz’ weekly newspaper column “Under the Dome”, Schulz’ voting record from the 1963 session, and campaign materials relating to his numerous elections.

The rest of the collection is arranged by topic. These files are comprised of information collected by Schulz about the most important issues during his tenure in the House of Representatives. Files on the topics of state aid for schools, the change of Mankato State College to a university, the proposed Minnesota Wetlands Bill, and improvement of highway and motor vehicle safety are part of the collection.

One file of miscellaneous materials is also part of the collection. Included in this file are seating charts and name tags from the 1963 session, a 1967 speech by Schulz, and items on margarine sales and snowmobiling.
