From the Collection:

This collection consists of items relating to the MSU teaching career of Ruth Schellberg,

of Mankato, Minnesota. Camping and canoeing-related folders may include itineraries, lists of participants, maps, correspondence, and lists of camping supplies. Folders related to the IAPESGW contain membership lists, correspondence, and travel information about the international congresses. The collection contains several folders of photographs and slides of Schellberg’s camping and canoeing trips. Also included are speeches delivered and articles written by Schellberg, and a copies of her master’s thesis and Ph.D. dissertation.

The materials in this collection originate from 1936-2000. It includes newspaper clippings from the late 1930s through the1990s about Schellberg and the various trips she led. Also included is one folder about the Physical Education Scholarship that Schellberg created at MSU.

There are materials in the MSU archives Human Performance collection about Schllberg’s role in bringing suit against the Minnesota State University System in 1973. Schellberg served as Minnesota president of the Women’s Equity Action League. The case was settled in 1976 with the university system agreeing to pay $63,000 to 69 women faculty members at state universities of Moorhead, St. Cloud and Mankato.
