Biographical / Historical

The Undergraduate Research Conference began in 1999 at Minnesota State University, Mankato. The Conference was established to allow undergraduate students to share scholarly work in a professional manner. In 2012 the URC realigned and the Undergraduate Research Center was created and the conference was renamed as the Undergraduate Research Symposium. In addition to the Symposium, the URC supports student research through grant and mentor opportunities, internships and The Journal of Undergraduate Research (JUR). JUR is an interdisciplinary peer-reviewed online journal that is published annually to promote undergraduate research at Minnesota State Mankato.

In 2012 the Minnesota State Colleges and Universities System (Minnesota State) began their own undergraduate conference, the Minnesota Conference of Undergraduate Scholarly and Creative Activity. Today, the Minnesota State system offers undergraduates two opportunities to present their scholarly work. They can present at the Posters at St. Paul and/or the Minnesota Conference of Undergraduate Scholarly and Creative Activity. Minnesota State University, Mankato was the first host of the MnSCU conference.
