Scope and Contents

The University Advancement collection has been divided into seven series. Items in each section have been arranged by chronology and topic. The series are: Alumni Relations; Marketing and Communications; Faculty and Staff Records; Publications; University Development; Promotional Media; and Minnesota State University History.

Alumni Relations: Contained in this series are mainly correspondence sent to and from the office of alumni relations.

Marketing and Communications: This series is arranged alphabetically and chronologically. The bulk of it is new releases about the university, but it also includes information about the college radio station, which changed names and operations over time. There are also newspaper clippings about Minnesota State University Mankato and the predecessor institutions included in this series.

Publications: This series contains publications from 1964 through the present. The publications in boxes 4 and 5 are arranged chronologically. This series is subdivided into: News Publications for Campus, Alumni Publications, and Other Publications.

University Development: This series is arranged alphabetically and chronologically.

Faculty and Staff Records: This series contains information about the faculty and staff at Minnesota State University and its predecessor institutions. The collection is arranged alphabetically. This series has majority of the faculty and staff up to 2002, but not everyone that has worked at the university is included.

Promotional Media: This series is media that Minnesota State University, Mankato produced to promote the campus and to document progress on building expansions.

Photographs: This series contains the photographs from different alumni events, marketing photographs, and graduation photos. Many of the photographs do not have names on them.

Minnesota State University History: This series is history about Minnesota State University, Mankato, and the predecessor names that were produced by MSU.

Abstract

The University Advancement collection consists of materials produced by several offices in the university and its predecessor institutions since 1939. University Advancement was created to promote public relations between the university and the public. Included are documents concerning fund raising, financial reports, biographical information about some of the faculty and staff, and communications to alumni. There are seven series in this collection: Alumni Relations, Marketing and Communications, Faculty and Staff Records, Publications, University Development, Promotional Media, and Minnesota State University History.
