The Minnesota State University, Mankato School of Nursing was started in the 1950s. Funding for the development of the program was made available by the state legislature to help alleviate the shortage of nurses following World War 11. During the mid-1950s the program received approval by the Minnesota Board of Nursing (MBN). After years of attempts, the program received accreditation by the National League of Nursing in 1964 and has received reaccreditation ever since. The School has gone by several names in its lifetime. Until the late 1970s it was known as the Division of Nursing.
