Scope and Contents
The University General Records collection is a collection of general information about
Minnesota State University and its predecessor institutions. This collection contains
meeting minutes and general information that does not fit in with any other particular
collection. Some of the information contained within the collection is information about
the fimds that started the Mankato State Normal School, the seventy-fifth and centennial
celebrations, as well as different activities supported by the University. The collection is
divided into two series, where the second series is sub-divided by the different university
names.
Minutes and Reports: This series contains different groups and committee meeting minutes that met on campus.
Subject Files: This series contains general records from the university and its predecessor names and is sub divided into five sub-series:
Mankato State Normal School: This sub-series contains information from 1868-1921. Included in this series is information about the funding for the founding of Mankato State Normal School, as well as a scrapbook that was put together by the school.
Mankato State Teachers College: This sub-series contains information from 1921-1957. Included here is information about the 1922 fire at Old Main. There is also information about different classes at the Teachers College and the 75 anniversary of the school.
Mankato State College: This sub-series contains information from 1957- 1975. Some of the material included here relates to the strikes on campus in the 1970s and information on the College Constitution in the 1970s. There are also commemorative folders of the different buildings on campus done for the centennial celebration.
Mankato State University: This sub-series contains information from 1975- 1998. Included in this series is information about the campus reorganization and the recycling team on campus.
Minnesota State University, Mankato: The sub-series contains information from 1998-present. There is information about Y2K readiness, the student strike, and MSU Fast Facts.
The materials from this collection were gathered independently from the offices of origin and over time this General Records Collection developed. It was decided to maintain this artificial collection as a means of providing access to materials that may not have a clear home. It is important that the researcher consider the related collections to make sure they have considered other possibly relevant information.
