Biographical / Historical
The College of Business began in 1948 under the name Division of Business Education. Originally, the college was established to train those who wanted to teach, and very few of the early enrollees went on to gain a career in business. This degree was in Business Education, and the first people graduated with this degree in 1949. This has since changed, where many of the students that graduated from the college pursue careers in business and less go into the field of teaching. The name changed once again in 1958 to the Division of Business and again in 1965 to the school of Business. In 1993, the school was now called the College of Business, and this name remains today. The College of Business has the largest enrollment of any college on campus with over two thousand undergraduate students. Over the years the College of Business has offered different course offerings which are now a part of different Colleges. Currently, the College offers Accounting, Finance, Management, Marketing and International Business for majors and Accounting, Business Administration, Business Law, Entrepreneurship and Innovation, Financial Planning, Human Resource Management, Marketing, and International Business as minors. In addition, there is a strong Master of Business Administration and Master of Accounting programs at Minnesota State University, Mankato. For more information about the College of Business, see their website at: https://cob.mnsu.edu/. This information was gathered from Faust, Claire E.
