Biographical / Historical

The scope of College of Science, Engineering, and Technology has evolved over the years. Departments were first created at the Mankato State Teachers College in 1922. Since then there have been five name changes. These names include Science (1922- 1928); Biology and Physics (1931-1937); Division of Science and Mathematics (1938- 1961); Natural Sciences, Mathematics and Home Economics (1978-1994); and its current name College of Science, Engineering and Technology (1994-Present). Each time the program changed its name the departments within changed. From 1986-1994 the Physics, Engineering, and Technology departments were in their own school known simply as the School of Physics, Engineering and Technology. Today the College of Science, Engineering and Technology contains the Physics, Astronomy, Biology, Mechanical and Civil Engineering, Chemistry and Geology, Automotive and Manufacturing Engineering Technology, Computer Information Science, Construction Management, Mathematics and Statistics, Integrated Engineering, and Electrical and Computer Engineering and Technology programs. Today the college is one of the largest in the university and continues to grow.
